dyne:bolic 2.4.1 LiveCD
dyne:bolic GNU/Linux is a live bootable
distribution, an operating system which
works directly from the CD without the
need to install or change anything on the hard disk.
It is user-friendly, recognizes your hardware devices (sound, video, firewire, and USB) and offers a vast range of software for multimedia production, streaming, 3D modeling, photo, peer-to-peer filesharing, web browsing and publishing, word processing, email, encryption, and networking.
It also includes games and a world navigator.
It does automatic clustering, joining the CPU power between any other dyne:bolic on the local network, and works on modded XBOX consoles as well.
Surf, stream, edit, encode and broadcast both sound and video, all just in one CD you have simply to boot!
Dyne:bolic is shaped on the needs of media activists to eager the production of informations, realizing a full multimedia studio. It takes birth as a grassroot effort to spread free software and the spirit of sharing informations.
=== WHAT'S NEW in 2.4.1
This release fixes various bugs present in 2.4 including docking
functionality when booting from CD and running from HD. It also
features new software as DVDStyler to craft DVDs, StreamTuner to browse
thousands of internet radios and Bluetooth support. Abiword has been
re-introduced in its latest version, Cinelerra has been updated with
graphical interface enhancements and Firefox has been upgraded to
2.0.0.2-fs. Documentation is also expanded: the new dyne:II manual is
almost complete and ready for print, boot scripts have been cleaned up
and reorganized.
Various extra software modules have been updated and will appear on the
website in the coming days. Modules can be burned alone in a CD to ship
the system + extras on 2 CDs. Upcoming external modules are all built
from source and include: OpenOffice 2.1, Wine Win32 emulator, various
Development tools, Qemu hardware emulator, Java runtime and web plugin,
several Games, Veejay Next Generation, GP2X cross compilation suite and
more...

=== upgrading from version 2
To upgrade just replace the dyne/ directory with the new one, or run
the CD and answer yes when prompted.
To upgrade your nest to encrypted the easieast way is
- backup your home data on the harddisk outside the nest
- create a new encrypted nest overwriting the old one
- import manually your data into the new one
